A member asked:

I have been taking birth control for several years, recently switched to generic and am bleeding heavily early and have cramps. what's the deal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Delicate balance: Hormones function with the body in a very delicate balance. Switching from brand to generic, or from one type of birth control pill to another, can upset this balance and cause irregular or heavy periods, weight changes, hot flashes, etc. Best to see your prescribing physician to see what other options you may have. Occasionally, just waiting 3-4 months for the hormones to balance may be enough.
