Can be used to treat: No birth control method causes pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome). It's not unusual for a woman to start birth control pills as a teenager for painful or heavy periods, stop the pill in her 20's or 30's when ttc, and then find out she has irregular cycles and get diagnosed with pcos. Birth control pills can be used as part of the treatment of pcos, especially in women who aren't trying to conceive.

Possibly: The association is probably that ocp's are generally the first line treatment for pcos. Ocp's do not cause pcos.
