Maybe: Herpes is usually diagnosed and treated based on the appearance of the lesion. The blood test doesn't tell you whether a lesion is due to herpes. It only tells you whether you have herpes in your body. If you wait for the result to come back, it will be too late to benefit from treatment for that episode.
