Ask your doctor: It can affect absorption and effectiveness of your birth control pills adversely. Certain patients with inflammatory bowel disease should not take oral contraceptive pills. For example, in those with extensive disease, recent surgery, or steroid use, generally the risks of birth control pills outweigh the benefits. An ob/gyn should be able to determine which birth control method is best for you.
