Yes: Fissures can cause pain, swelling , inflammation and cause infection. I would see a doctor if your pain is severe. Good luck

Yes, commonly: there is an underlying low grade infection. Usually hygiene is all that is needed, because infection is controlled as soon as the fissure heals. Consult with colo-rectal surgeon if pain persists.
