HPV: Most likely given your history, social activity and duration of pharyngitis. Certain types of HPV infections are connected to pharyngeal cancer. I strongly recommend practicing safe sex with barrier to protect your partner. It is likely you have passed the HPV to your partner who in turn has passed it back to you in the pharynx.

Separate problems: HPV doesn't cause tonsillitis. Oral HPV is less common than genital. Your partner may well have oral HPV but this fact and the tonsillitis are unrelated. The HPV types that cause most genital warts (HPV 6 and 11) rarely cause cancer.
