Depends: In the general area you describe there are muscles, tendons, arteries, veins and nerves along with the femur bone itself. It could be inflammation or injury to or near any of those structures. One also has to consider that the pain is due to an injury/abnormality of the hip. It's best to have it assessed by your doc - physical exam is really important.
