Yes: Symptomatic manifestations of genital herpes depend upon whether this is a first time exposure, what differences there are in your immune system, and a host of other factors. Carriage of herpes is a lifetime phenomenon, and may occur without symptoms.

A 25-year-old female asked:

How long until genital herpes symptoms show up?

Usually 3-10 days: Symptoms of a new genital herpes infection, usually red bumps that rapidly become blisters then open sores, usually start at 3-5 days, sometimes up to 10 days, rarely as long as 2-3 weeks. Often there also are inflammed lymph nodes in the groin, and sometimes fever and headache. However, many new infections are mild or cause no symptoms. If any new genital sore of any kind, see doctor immediately.
