A member asked:

If you have genital warts will your pap smear being tested for hpv be positive because of genital warts?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not necessarily: The strains that cause genital lesions are different from the ones that cause cervical changes.Having genital lesions does not prevent you from getting the strains that cause cervical changes.Paps are a screening test for pre-cancerous changes and as a screening test is not specific to what caused those changes.
