Pap recommended: Pap smears have been around saving women's lives for decades before we knew the link of some (not all) cervical cancer to HPV. They are recommended starting at 21 or after starting sex. The docs have equipment that permits doing a pap on a virgin without tearing a hymen. A simple vaginal smear would not adequately assess the cervix.
