Depends: In general, we try to perform elective treatment during the second trimester since that is the most comfortable time for the mother. Necessary or emergency treatment can be performed at any time. Consult your physician and your orthodontist.

Depends: Tooth extraction for orthodontics would be considered an elective procedure in most cases. If you cannot wait until after the delivery of your child for the extractions, the safest time to have the extractions performed is during the second trimester. Your ob-gyn will likely limit the procedure to local anesthesia alone and may restrict the type of pain medication prescribed postoperatively.
