Food allergy: The diagnosis of food allergy requires the presence of allergic antibody (ige) either detected by blood testing (rast) or skin testing and a history of reproducible symptoms following each ingestion. Sorbitol is too small a chemical to trigger ige production however, if symptoms occur every time you consume it, then you have an intolerance to sorbitol. Avoidance is the treatment for both condition.
