What is the debate regarding aspartame, sorbitol and mannitol?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Some will accelerate the GI tract motility causing diarrhea, but most sugar-alcohols are great diabetic substitute sweetener. They are less sweet than sugar, and artificial sweeteners are much sweeter. They do stimulate insulin, but less than glucose. Aspartmae is an artifical sweetener.
