Infected bite: Most insect bites can be adequately managed at home with local wound care (washing twice daily with soap and water, then topical antibiotic cream if open). Oral antihistamines can also help swelling and itching. Increased redness, drainage, ulceration, fever or pain should prompt a visit to your doctor.
