Not sure: I'm not sure what you mean by spots.... Some may be normal and others can be a sign of pathology.. It may be best to have a doctor look to see what your talking about.. Especially if there is a change in color or size in a short period of time..

Decay : Black spots are caused by bacteria eating away your teeth and causing tooth decay. Some dark spots may be stain or calculus build up. You need to see a dentist for an exam and treatment. All of these are bad for your teeth.

Which spots?: "spots" is a very indefinite term. I have had a number of patients ask about the large circular looking structures on the posterior tongue that are large taste buds that are rather shocking in appearance if not noted before. Those are normal anatomy. And called vallate papillae. No concern for those.
