A member asked:

My 13 month old had high hgb a2, and f on electrophoresis. in comments it said heterozygous hgb a and hgb c are present. what does it mean?

Hemoglobin c trait: There are multiple variants of hemoglobin, which is the protein in your red blood cells that carries oxygen. As long as you have a normal component (in this case HGB a) there should not be any major health problems. It could be a problem for your grandchildren, though. If they get your child's abnormal variant, and an abnormal variant from the other parent, they could have a blood disease.
