Yes: Darkening of the skin as a result of sun exposure is a symptom of skin damage and the body's attempt to mitigate this damage. In miami you probably should be getting no more than 10-15 minutes of unscreened sun exposure a day for vitamin d production. Taking supplements would be another alternative if you are relatively fair skinned.
