The pill works: By tricking the brain into not stimulating the ovary to not release an egg, which occurs on day #14 of the cycle. It should be fine if you started 3 days after the first day of the period.

Not entirely true: You will have substantial protection now but not 100% best to use an added method (?Foam or condom) for the first week only.
