Narcotic-acetaminoph: A combination narcotic/acetaminophen is the drug most commonly used. Oxycodone or hydrocodone and Acetaminophen are most popular in the us. Tramadol is used by some. If laparoscopic surgery is used to take your kidney, the pain is not marked at all and is generally easy to treat. Remember, there are serious side-effects if we take all pain away. Goal for pain control is a score of 2-3 out of 10.

Pain control: Our patients go home on percocet. You will not be able to take nsaids such as advil or ibuprofen, but you can take some tylenol (acetaminophen). If you take a lot of nsaids prior to the operation, you should discuss this with your surgeon because you will have to find an alternative postop. Tramadol is another option.
