Do as instructed: Failure to comply with treatment of hypothyroidism is a life-ruiner. Please do as instructed and if you or your wife have any concerns about her being on an antidepressant, let the prescribing physician know. Chances are being treated for hypothyroidism will improve other aspects of her health as well.
