Was MRI considered?: Did you get a biopsy? What was the diagnosis? Mri should be definitely considered. Mri is capable of accurately evaluating the extent of infiltrating ductal & lobular carcinoma in both breast at same time and finding additional, mammographicly occult, areas of disease. Was it your decision to get double mastectomies or was cancer found in both breast?

ABUS: Automated breast ultrasound (abus) is a new technique that involves scanning the entire breast; however, this is a screening test that compliments mammography, especially for women with dense breasts. If you have many lumps, a diagnostic ultrasound is most appropriate. Regardless, we need more info to answer your question--it's unclear why you need a double mastectomy & how this could relate to us.

You can have: breast ultrasound in the setting of multiple lumps. Why are you having a double mastectomy? Are you a BRCA carrier or have you been diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer? If not, Breast MRI is highly sensitive for detecting cancer and might help avoid a potentially unnecessary surgery.
