A member asked:

Are only fissures or lesions attributable to proctolgia fugax? or can you have these spasms for no reason?

No reason : Anal fissures, fistula & hemorrhoidal disease can cause anorectal pain. Proctalgia fugax or rectal pain & spasms can result from these conditions but many times the cause of proctalgia fugax is never determined as it is generally a poorly understood & often difficult to treat disorder.
