Unclear question: Taking the pulse provides as accurate a measure as any for heart rate.

Counting. : The oldest is the best to measure heart rate. Fingers on pulse and count for 10 or 15 or 30 seconds and multiply to get the hr for one minute. In the hospital, we place patients on telemetry. An ekg will give you a measure at one point, but wouldn't be necessary just to know heart rate.
