Need exam: A good history and physical exam needs to be done to determine the pain generator. When it switches from side to side, it is often muscular. Just because there are changes on an mri, it does not mean that there is necessarily a painful condition. Facets and discs have fairly specific patterns that include the activities that make them better or worse. Muscle pain is less predictable.

Many Possibilities: Depending on how long it's been going on, i would consider an evaluation by a spine specialist. Sometimes it could be a muscle imbalance, early onset arthritis or scoliosis. Also could be a pinched nerve/herniated disc. Either way it might be good to figure it out and get appropriate treatment.
