TFESI: Generally, most patients do not require sedation, however if you plan w/ them ahead, some physicians will provide light sedation for the procedure at your request. Your awareness can help provide feedback during the procedure. Patients who receive sedation must have a responsible adult with them to drive them home and will need to follow proper npo guidelines. Plan now w/ your physician. Good luck.

Simple procedure: I believe that you are referring to a transforminal epidural steroid injection (tfesi). If so, they are commonly done for radicular extremity pain stemming from nerve root compression in the spine. They are typically done under local without sedation although some anxiolysis from valium could be considered. Iv sedation is also available at many locations but carries its own risk.
