Need to control mind: What ever yoga you are doing , in true yoga , it not physical , it is mental control , concentration , meditation , should not feel anything especially the point you described . Concentrate and control you mind , then you will not feel anything , be a true yogi.

If it hurts...: There is a famous saying "if it hurts don't do it." this discomfort is a message from your body to not do the exercise you are doing, at least not the way you are doing it. But this question may be more appropriate for your yoga teacher...
