I have a fracture of my 2nd metatarsal and i was wondering why my doctor wanted to see me again in 2 weeks & why a dexa scan & labs were ordered?

Osteoperosis: With fracture their is increase risk of osteoporosis therefore should have DXA scan (test for osteoporosis) blood tes checking calcium and thyroid would be important.

Metatarsal Fracture: Metatarsal fractures can be difficult to heal since you have to weight bear on the broken area. Followups of 2-3 weeks are common while the doctor is making sure all the aspects of successful treatment are being put in place--immobilization, soaking, activity levels, etc. If DEXA scans and labs are being ordered, the doc may be worried about your vit d3 level or bone density.
