Small but...: According the growth charts from the who, a 9 mos old boy at 17 lbs would be in the 9th percentile, i.e., 91/100 similar babies would weigh more, but 9/100 would weigh less. This is under average. But. The trend is more important. Since his mother is small, it might be normal for him to be as well. Watch how his wt is increasing w/ each checkup & encourage his mother to discuss her concerns w/ dr.
