See PCP.: The rash maybe fungal rash. Have your pcp examine it to give appropriate treatment. Meanwhile, have him take a hot shower and keep the rash dry.

Two possibilities: Either irritation from the pants rubbing on his skin or "jock itch" which is a fungal infection caused by the fungus, tinea cruris. It's not serious and is readily treatable with a combination cream which contains a steroid and an antifungal medication; one such med is Lotrisone (clotrimazole and betamethasone) cream (it's available in its generic also). Apply it sparingly twice daily for a few days (until the rash is gone).

Most likely: Most likely a contact irritation...Chafing causing some rednesss...Possibly a localized bacterial or less likely a superficial fungal infection. I would try some bacitracin...If it gets worse or does not go away see your doctor.

Contact rash?: Wet material may be rough enough to have caused chafing & can look like sunburn. Is he drying his hip pads, tailbone pads, thigh pads, knee pads, completely? These can be breeding grounds for fungus and bacteria. Infection can look more like acne or boils. Dry pads thoroughly, keep pants clean and can soften with fabric softener--may need to switch material. Bring him to doctor if not better.
