Not necessarily: While your hemoglobin is lower than desirable, blood transfusion is not warranted. Hysterectomy is usually an elective procedure and, unless you are bleeding abnormally, you could raise your hemoglobin by taking iron and vitamins. Please discuss the options with your doctor.
