It Depends....: "sleeping pills" can be used for sleep onset and sleep maintenance insomnia. This can be caused by bad sleep hygiene, which are habits that tend to perpetuate the insomnia. A pill can only help so much if you don't correct the underlying cause. Sleep apnea is another major factor in poor quality sleep. A thorough evaluation is needed before medication should be prescribed.

It's not always best: The ideal treatment for any condition is to treat the underlying cause rather than simply cover up the problem by using medicine. If there is a cause related to lifestyle habits or a medical condition that can be corrected, that is best for the body. Some sleeping pills have side effects that outweigh the benefits.
