Nerve problem: Burning type pain usually means there is a nerve problem.

Ankle: Burning pain is usually do to neuropathy. Is the pain in one or both ankles. Do you have diabetes ? Can always be do to a direct injury to the ankle or a herniated disk in your lumbar spine. An examination by your physician is really needed to narrow it down.
