Dementia: It is a disease of old people when they lose memory gradually due a deteriorating old brain. Intellectual functions deteriorates slowly also...A 17years old person can have other diseases that can cause a gradual loss of intelligence and capacity to adapt to life. 17 year olds: Can have memory problems, but not likely to be dementia---head trauma, alcohol, drugs, serious medical illnesses can all cause memory loss.
