Why send a ulcer in colon to pathology?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

What is it?: You don't just get an "ulcer" in the colon. Is it cancer? Is it an amoeba infection? Is it a viral infection? Site of previous injury? A lesion caused by its being near a diverticulum? It's the owner's right to know -- it may need to be treated.
