A member asked:

Where does glucose come from in fasting and nonfasting states?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fasting & fed states: Hi. In the fed state, glucose comes from simple sugars and breakdown of complex carbohydrates in the diet. In the short term fast, glucose comes from breakdown of stored glycogen in the liver (glycogenolysis) and release into the blood. In longer term fasting, glucose comes from gluconeogenesis in the liver from certain amino acids , pyruvate, etc.
