A member asked:

Can i use betadine throat gargle to rinse my around my mouth for herpangina?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, but won't help: Herpangina is a viral infection (coxsackie) resulting in painful oral ulcerations. The infection is contagious and resolves in 7-10 days. There is no effective treatment other than constitutional support: fluids, analgesics such as tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen, and rest. Betadine rinse would prevent secondary infection, but also would be irritating, exacerbating the condition and not killing the virus.
