Confront: I think you should confront him, ask him to accompany him to physician visit, involve more in his care, probably you can get more info.

Opioid abuse: I assume you don't think he's telling you the truth. If so, will he allow you to accompany him to prescribing doctor? Or ask doc to check dea report to find all docs who've prescribed him controlled substances in last yr. And ask doc to run toxicology test to show taking meds & nothing else (rather than selling them). He needs an addiction specialist if he wants to get better.

Snorting: No doctor prescribes any medication for snorting . So he is likely abusing it.

Tox screen ?: The best way to approach this is in a cautios manner, showing respect and love, not enabling relapse, and offering solutions (rehab). Family and/or friends interventions are required sometimes, they are very effective in most cases. The law allows(in most jurisdictions) relatives to present the case to the courts and obtain help. Get a psychiatrist or addiction specialist to help you. Good luck.

Narcotic abuse: Once somebody abuses narcotics, they are much more likely to abuse narcotics again. It's best if he's actively part of an na program for recovering addicts. It's also best if you can completely avoid all narcotics. If he must, having someone else monitor and distribute his meds. Best to have him see a really good pain doctor and an addictionologist. Your suspicion is probably saving his life.
