Colitis: Colon- large intestine itis- inflammation. Colitis is various from irritable bowel, diverticulitis, parasites to ulcerative colitis. Most with diarrhea, pan, or bleeding as symptoms.

Inflammation: Colitis refers to inflammation of the bowel, whether from ulcerative colitis, crohn's disease or infections or damage from antibiotic-induced infection. Sometimes used for irritable bowel, but colitis is incorrect term for that.
