Recent publication: I'm not a hand surgeon but i see you've been waiting for awhile so i did a pubmed search and found a journal article from 2013 describing an alternative treatment: triphalangeal thumb with polydactyly: an alternative surgical method. Ozturk mb et al., . J hand microsurg. 2013 jun;5(1):20-3.I recommend you discuss this with your hand surgeon to see what your options are--not much published recently.
