A member asked:

Back fusions -- are they sucessful overall or no?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Spinal fusion, in the correctly indicated patient, can significantly help for multiple spinal pathologies. Overall, it is a very successful procedure for most. Fusions do not restore full functional anatomy, so they are not "perfect" in the results. The results are not as optimal in smokers, due to lower healing potential.
