Mechanical: Usually an acute meniscus tear causes pain with ambulation, stiffness when sitting for long periods of time, and tenderness either medially or laterally along the joint line. Sometimes the torn tissue can cause mechanical symptoms such as popping, locking, or catching during range of motion of the knee.
