See below: The meniscus is made from a type of cartilage. For the meniscus to be displaced (moved from its normal position) there must be a tear. This can usually be seen on MRI if displaced. The treatment is usually surgical if causing pain or other symptoms.

Maybe: Depends on what the MRI actually looks like. Your orthopaedist needs the images as well as the report and you and your knee to decide. The meniscus root is where the meniscus attaches to the capsule (or lining) of the knee.
