Do you need to get malaria shots if you travel to costa rica?

Malaria pills: Check with your local health department they get updates from the cdc bi-weekly. Costa rica has been an area where malaria prophylaxis has been recommended( my daughter has been to costa rica) you usually take a pill weekly starting 1 week before travel and 6 weeks after return. See your doctor or health department to get the medication. It is not a shot.

Malaria: Portions of costa rica do have risk for malaria--limon province (though not limon city itself) the risk is greatest in the cantons of matina and talamanca. There are no shots for malaria though. If going to those areas you would need to take preventative medicine. Talk to a health provider--there are some vaccine shots you may well need if not complete already.
