A member asked:

Why is it that retin-a dries your skin so much and make it irritated?

Because...: ...That's what it does. Retin-a is drying and irritating by its very nature. That's why we usually advise people to apply it at bedtime - so that most of the dryness and irritation occurs while you are asleep. Over time (days to weeks), your skin becomes accustomed to retin-a; the dryness and irritation decreases substantially, and often goes away entirely; so keep it up.

Tips for retin-A: Here are some tips to reduce Retin-A irritation. 1. Only use once a day - usually at night. 2. Make sure your skin is really dry before you put it on. 3. Try the micronized version - less irritation. 4. Start with the lowest dose (0.01%) and only use a small amount. Use the whole tube gradually, before going up in strength. 5. If Retin-A is too drying, consider renova (tretinoin).
