It may..: Depends on the bacteria causing the infection. If you are asking, then it is presumed that you are self medicating. Not a good idea. The abscess will only come back worse next time around. Treat the tooth correctly now by calling a dentist for an appointment.

Abscess tooth: For a dental infections in first 3 days choices are pnevk, amoxicillin, Clindamycin or cephalexin. If no improvement at fourth day choices are Clindamycin or augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate). If allergic to penicillin then Clindamycin is choice. However, you should see your dentist asap as the antibiotic will not take the infection away if it is not treated.
