Can you use antibiotic ointment while taking valtrex (valacyclovir)?

Yes, BUT: There is no benefit to such use. Mupirocin is good for impetigo. Otc antibiotic ointments are of no benefit. Valtrex (valacyclovir) is generally used for 1 or 2 doses for herpes. No antibiotic helps herpes.
