Can you take bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for strep throat?

Strep throat: Strep is traditionally treated by a penicillin drug or, in those allergic, with an erythromycin. Check with your doctor to see why Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) was precscribed instead.

No: If this is from a hord of old meds it will not work for this infection.Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) will not kill this germ.
