Is 4 cc of benadryl (diphenhydramine) safe for a 1 year old?

Be careful.: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is so commonly used that many use it indiscriminately. A young child in daycare near me died from an overdose of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) recently. There are various strengths of Diphenhydramine available--so 4cc of one might be safe, 4cc of another might be deadly. Since the correct dose is weight and age dependent, and can be influenced by the use of other drugs, it would be best if you called your md.

Big/average/little ?: The average 1 yo is about 10 kg in weight and the suggested dose is 1mg/kg.If your kid weighs 22 lb/10 kg/ the 4cc would be ok (12.5mg/5ml liquid). If you don't know how much the weight is or what concentration the med is, check both before using.
