Self-esteem: Overprotecting is the direct result of parents not having trust (faith in) and, as a result, not instilling confidence in their children. Thus, the parental insecurities become their kids'. To treat such a condition, it is a matter of restoring or generating self-confidence in the child, the parent or, preferably, both.
