Unknown: Agoraphobia is a fear of open spaces, especially crowded ones. In severe cases patients are unable to leave home. It is often associated with panic disorder. The causes are unknown, probably a combination of genetic and environmental factors. It CAN be treated with proper psychotherapy however, with supporting medications, but an experienced therapist and a long treatment time are needed.
